1986 Yamaha RD350 YPVS N1
This is the twin brother of the F1, originally supplied without a fairing for the retro look favoured by some and quite rare as only 800 were produced for the European market.
Once stripped, we found the motor to be very tired. So after a full crank rebuild, pistons/re-bores, and numerous seals, bearings and gaskets along with repainting the outer covers and blasting the crank cases, it would be mechanically sound. The Chassis also got the “new era” treatment. Over the years a lot of the correct nuts and bolts had been replaced with proprietary fasteners, originals were sourced and re-plated. Special requirements for this age Yamaha, amongst others is the “Drab olive passivate” plating which we had to replicate.
Some of the eagle eyed will notice that it has the later spec carbs and exhaust fitted, thus helping to reach the 63 bhp claimed by Yamaha on the later models, along with some 4 pot callipers to help it stop from the higher top speeds gained. Of course we had the originals refurbed and put to one side if ever it needs to be but back to standard.
